Even His Brothers Did Not Believe in Him
May 20, 2023
Sermon starts at 3hr 40min
The sermon titled “Even His Brothers Did Not Believe in Him” elucidates on the nuanced themes within John 7:1-5, particularly focusing on the intriguing dynamics of proximity. It draws attention to the paradox that Jesus consciously avoids Judea – the location of the temple – as he perceives a tangible threat from the Jews who are seeking to end his life. Simultaneously, His own brothers, those physically and relationally closest to Him, express disbelief in His divinity. This sermon seeks to unpack the profound irony that those closest in proximity to both the temple and Jesus himself, the spaces considered most sacred, are often the ones exhibiting a marked lack of faith.

Who is the God? The call to worship a false god here is tied with the threat of harm and of death. Hence, you are to worship not because you are in awe of the god, or you know the god (relational), or even due to anything the god has done for you. Did they know the golden statue? Did it do anything for them? No. Worship is based solely on what will happen if they don’t.
